What Temperature Should I Have My AC Set At?

If you live on the northeastern coast of Florida, you are
keenly aware that the climate can be warm and humid in summer. The humidity can
make the inside air feel sticky and thick. Your central air conditioning may
work a little harder during these days when the temperatures can get into the
high 80s and low 90s. In order to remain comfortable and dry, you likely need
to run your HVAC system constantly. This can take a toll on utility costs. What
is the ideal temperature to have your thermostat set to in summer without
breaking the bank?

Ideal AC Temperature Setting for Your Northeastern
Florida Home

The keep your home comfortable during the heat of the
summer months, you will want to set the thermostat to around 78 degrees. While
that may sound warmer than you would think you want, it is a number that seems
to work best to make your home feel cooler inside than you will feel when you
step outside.

Seventy-eight degrees is also a good temperature to reduce humidity
inside the house because it will still allow your AC to pull moisture out of
the indoor air. The lower you set the thermostat, the more energy you will use.

It can also help to run ceiling fans to better circulate
the cool air. And of course, turn your thermostat up when you are traveling or
not at home for an extended time.

Best AC Temperature Setting for Your Workplace

When cooling a commercial space, you will want the
thermostat set to somewhere between 70 and 76 degrees, depending on the type of
business. A crowded restaurant might warrant a lower setting to control heat
and humidity from diners and the kitchen.

However, when your place of business isn’t in operation, you
could turn the thermostat up closer to 80 degrees in order to save on utility
costs. In this situation, a programmable smart thermostat is recommended to
ensure that the AC cools down the space before employees and clients arrive.
